Puppy nipping is really a really normal occurrence among young puppies, especially for those who have started teething. When teething takes place puppies feel pressure on their gums and as a result they'll really need to find a method to counteract this pressure simply by chewing, gnawing, or nipping on anything that they see. This is actually a quite typical challenge among dog owners but there are actually strategies to help you resolve your puppy nipping issues.

To start with, you should understand that it's never right to strike your dog if he begins nipping. Instead, you need to redirect his behavior onto far more acceptable biting behavior, like biting on chew toys. Additionally it can be essential to train him to be gentler any time a hand is close to his mouth. Always surround your puppy with chew toys so that there are actually lesser possibilities of him gnawing on the furniture or nipping on other people's toes.

Just like children, young puppies react to novelty so it is crucial to give him brand new toys on occasion. In case your puppy isn't comfortable when he is being petted, you can actually improve this by conditioning your pet to believe that petting is a good thing. Whenever you pet him, provide him with a chew toy with your other hand. This tends to keep his mouth busy and prevent him from nipping.

A different technique to stop puppy nipping is by discouraging his unfavorable behavior. As soon as your puppy begins to nip at your face whenever you are playing with him, never strike him. He'll only feel you are playing with him and it can even inspire him to do it even more. Hitting or spanking could also encourage violent behavior that he can carry over as he grows up. It may in addition cause your puppy to become fearful of you.

Instead, give him a time out. Whenever the nipping begins, say "bad dog" and turn your attention from him. This way he'll almost certainly realize that he did something wrong. The more you do this, the more his nipping behavior will be discouraged.

In the event the biting becomes worse, you must say "no" in a shocked voice and immediately put your thumb inside his mouth underneath his tongue, and your other finger under his chin. Hold it there for around ten seconds, but not very tightly, in order that your puppy will really feel uncomfortable. One vital thing to bear in mind is that you must be consistent with your behavior. Dogs flourish on routine, so the more they grow to be comfortable with your behavior the much easier they learn or unlearn undesirable behavior.

Having the right collar for training will allow for easier correction of unwanted behaviors and will ensure that your puppy, and those around you, are safe.

This article will cover the different types of dog collars which are available to you.

One of the most prevalent collars is the plain, flat collar that usually comes in nylon or leather. They are often colorful and are a convenient place to keep your dogs identification and vaccination tags. While these collars may look good, they don't work well in the course of training. When a lead is pulled, this type of collar will put pressure on the dog's windpipe and will cause discomfort.

Another type of restraint is a harness. The harness fits over the body of the dog and is a much better way to restrain your dog than a flat collar. When the lead is attached, the puppy can't move forward, and the best part is that there's no harm to the neck and throat.

Another choice is the head collar. This restraint takes its name from the positioning of the device. Rather than being wrapped around a dog's neck, this collar straps around the head so that when the lead is pulled, the dog's muzzle is what gets the pressure. Not only is this type of collar effective for training, it is much gentler than other collars.

A chain that tightens around the dog's neck when the lead is pulled is called a choker collar. These collars are quite dangerous as they put pressure directly on the dog's airway potentially causing serious damage. These collars are not recommended for use at any time.

A similar type of collar is a pinch collar, which also fits around the neck. The blunt metal protrusions put pressure around the neck in order to stop powerful and willful dogs. These collars are just used temporarily until your dog is adequately trained.

As you can see, harnesses and head collars are the most beneficial choices of dog collars to use in puppy training classes due to their control and their gentle treatment of your pet.

If you have a new dog that needs some training you might be asking yourself, what are the different types of dog training that you can use? Luckily for you, here is the best guide full of the best tips to use to your advantage! Before you know it, you will have the perfect dog!

You will need to get familiar with the different types of dog training that you can use to your advantage. Due to the fact that there are dogs of different breeds and ages, you need to do your research. Figure out what our dogs problems are and you can tackle them one at a time.

You should not start your dog with complicated tricks and training methods. You will need to start with the simple basics so that your dog can learn slowly as well as effectively. Start with teaching your dog how to sit and lay down. Simply commands will surely help you out.

Those who are trying to train puppies have the most work ahead of them. Luckily for you, puppies are easier to train because they are able to learn about everything. Take the time to teach them to go to the bathroom outside as well as keep from digging and chewing on various items. This is a bit challenging, but you will get through it within a few months.

Once your dog reaches the intermediate stage, you can start teaching them how to interact and walk with other dogs. Walking is hard for puppies but can still be taught in an effective manner. Make sure that you reward your dog for good behavior throughout your training. If your dog is not receiving the right rewards, it will become very confused or unmotivated to keep training.

If you are having trouble with your dog training methods, you need to employ the right hand signals. Hand signals will clearly tell a dog what they need to do. If you do not use hand signals, you might have a very hard time telling your dog what they need to do. When you want your dog to stay, make sure that you place your hand in front of you while you say the command. This will surely give your dog the right message.

If you are not having the luck that you need with your dog, there are trainers such as Bark Busters within your area that are sure to help you out. Take the time to talk with a trainer in order to get better tips and pointers. Any bit of information is going to help get your dog on the right track.

Dog training is not as hard as you might think. As long as you know what you need to train your dog effectively, you should be in good shape. Take the time right now to find out what you need to do and start training your dog so that you can enjoy!

Training a puppy can be challenging, but the rewards are priceless. Let the professional experts in puppy training train your dog in learning what is acceptable behaviour. You can find great dog training services in Kelowna.

They will choose one member of the family that they will think that they can train the easiest and will eventually train the person to do things the way the puppy wants it done. Most of the time the puppies will try to train the humans instead of the humans being able to train the puppy. But as humans we must start training the puppy the moment that they are brought into the family. You will need to have the whole family on the same page when you get a new puppy. You will want to set the boundaries and have all the family members do the same thing with the puppy. So setting boundaries will be the most important step in training a new puppy.

To be consistent with the puppy with all members of the family will be important to the puppy so that he will know from the start what acceptable behavior in the family is. You want to have a well behaved dog when people come to visit or when you are walking the dog out in public. Everyone in the family must abide by the same rules when it comes to puppy training. If you do not want the new puppy on furniture then everyone must work together to keep him off the furniture. The puppy will only be confused if some members of the household will allow him on the furniture and others won't.

Make sure that you puppy has plenty of his own dog toys. Puppies need to chew so make sure that they have their own toys that they can play with. The one thing that you don't want to give them is old shoes, they do not know the difference between old shoes and your expensive dress shoes to a small puppy it's all the same, a chew-toy. Only allowing the puppy to play with their own toys will take some time for the puppy to know the difference but they will learn to only chew on their toys and not your expensive shoes.

Exercise is important to your puppy. Give your puppy a lot of exercise daily. This will help them learn to walk on the leash, and this will also give them quality time with family members and more opportunities to learn good behavior. Exercise will also help them work off excess energy that they have. It also is important to socialize them with other animals and other people. The sooner you can get your puppy out to get meet other pets and people the better. You don't want to isolate your dog then introduce them to other animals as he matures, he will be fearful and maybe even aggressive. Walk your puppy daily will teach him how to walk on a leash and how to get along with other dogs and animals.

One thing that you may want to consider is obedience training for your puppy. This can make a difference to your puppy, if you are unable to teach your puppy manners you may want to look for assistance with a professional trainer to help you control your puppy. This is especially true with big dog breeds. You want big dog breeds to be especially well behaved and under your control at all times.

Bringing in a new puppy into your family is a great way to teach children responsibility and to begin the first of many years with your new friend and member of the family. Make sure that your puppy gets off to the right start by talking with your family on how you will raise your puppy to be a welcomed member of your family.

Learn how to train your puppy . Most dogs can be trained easily if you know the right steps to take to train them. Dog Obedience training is a must for all dogs.

Puppies, by nature, are playful and slightly unruly. Controlling their activity and focusing their attention is often challenging, especially if you're trying to do so in an environment that offers distractions. The benefit is that investing the time and effort to train your pup helps him learn how to be a better companion to you and your family.

There are a few ground rules to follow when training puppies - and even adult canines. In this article, we'll explore four of the most important.

Consistency Is The Top Priority

Dogs learn by repetition. But in order to learn effectively, the repetition must be consistent. For example, suppose you're teaching your puppy to heel. If you say, "heel" and your spouse says, "down," there is a chance your canine will become confused. He may eventually learn to heel on command, but the process of learning is slowed. It may even prevent him from committing the command to memory. Be consistent. If a family member or friend participates, ask them to do the same.

This is also important when rewarding successful behavior. Only provide a treat as a reward if your puppy fully satisfies your command. For example, if you call for him to come, but he only comes halfway, withhold the treat until he fully complies. Otherwise, he will soon learn that coming halfway is sufficient.

Limit The Duration Of The Sessions

Puppies have short attention spans. For this reason, you'll find that shorter sessions are more effective for holding their attention and producing positive results. A lot of owners push forward with longer periods despite their pups becoming bored. This rarely has a positive effect. The pup becomes less attentive while his owner become increasingly frustrated.

For the best results, keep sessions under fifteen minutes (this is also a good rule when training adult dogs). Doing so helps guarantee your puppy will stay focused.

Always Remain Calm

This is an often overlooked, but critical part of effective puppy training. Always remain calm, regardless of whether your pup successfully responds to your commands. Owners often become frustrated with their puppies during training sessions, and react in anger. Even if they manage to avoid yelling, the pup senses tension. This shatters his focus and makes it even less likely he'll behave as desired.

The calmer you remain, the more control you'll have over the training sessions. If you feel frustrated, give your puppy a final easy command and reward him when he satisfies it successfully. Then, end the session.

Never Punish

Most professional dog trainers are in agreement: positive reinforcement is far more effective than negative reinforcement. In other words, your puppy will commit your commands to memory more effectively if he has been rewarded for complying with them in the past. By contrast, if he has been punished for failing to comply, he is unlikely to commit the command to memory. He will have learned nothing from being punished except to fear you.

Canines, whether puppies or adults, do not use logic in the same manner people do. For example, suppose your pup digs a hole in your garden and you stumble upon it hours later. If you punish him, he is unlikely to make the connection between the hole he dug and your reaction. This is the reason trainers strongly recommend rewarding behaviors immediately. If you wait, even for a few minutes, your pup won't understand why you're rewarding him (though he'll happily accept the treat).

Most owners are well-intentioned about training their puppies. Unfortunately, many lack the patience or time to do it properly. If you intend to train your pup on your own, use the four ground rules above to improve your chances of success.

It is important to the owner and important to the puppy, as the happier you are the happier, and more settled, the puppy can be. Very young puppies do not have the muscular control to hold on for any period of time and need to go a very short time after the urge arises.

With this in mind it is obvious that the more you can supervise or be available the easier the task of puppy housebreaking becomes. It is inevitable that your puppy will make a mess or relieve themselves in inappropriate locations, on these occasions you should give the dog a stern NO but do not strike or shout at the dog, this must also be done at the time the puppy is going. If you reprimand the dog later it will not understand what it is being reprimanded for. Do not rub their nose in it, as this will encourage them to consume their own waste. When a puppy starts to wet or defecate you must give the stern NO and then take them to the appropriate place to do their business, and encourage them to finish their task. Upon completing their bathroom requirements in the appropriate place you should praise the puppy, this is true if you have moved them to this location or when they relieve themselves on a walk, or when loose in the garden, etc.

Training an older dog is the same principle but may take longer, as there may be some previous habits to get over. Of course though sometimes it may be easier, if the dog was already housebroken with a previous owner. Just be aware that it may take longer with an older dog, and will probably require extra patience.

It is very important when housebreaking a dog to remember that positive reinforcement is the best, if not the only, method to use.

Consider this from a dogs point of view. The dog starts to relieve themselves, and they are given a stern remark and then taken to a place that when they relieve themselves, they get praise and even a little treat now and then. It will become natural for the dog to wish to please. If a puppy has made a mess and some time later they are told off, they will not know why they have been told off.

A dog naturally wishes to please and gain affection so if you are upset when there is a mess they may well appreciate that. However, they will not associate your unhappiness with them having made the mess. Never rub their nose in any accidents because 1 it is an accident and 2 you are putting their mouth next to an item and getting angry, a fairly natural reaction may be to consume their own waste as there is nothing else they can do with the mouth you have pushed next to the offending item.

The hunter, who buys a dog, saw no need to get good guidance on dogs training, and if he gets a book, he does not explore in depth enough. And most importantly, the dog owner must be able to correctly understand, to love, to learn how to "think like a dog," only under these conditions it is possible to achieve the desired result of dog. The majority of dog breeders, many thousands of them, because of its rigidity and inability to content themselves with ill-bred dogs rush at all and leading to masters at the leash for a walk. This breeder is difficult to correct and completely change their views, humanized dog; for example, that his dog is' just does not say, "she understands every word," "stubborn, it makes for evil," "she knows what offended" and so on.To become a real trainer should categorically renounce such views, to understand the dog properly, i.e. learn how to perceive all the phenomena of life as they perceive a dog, learn how to justify all her actions with her dog, and not at their own, human, point of view. It must be clearly understood that the dog can not think (as people) that she has no feelings of guilt or innocence (as in man) that she does not understand the meaning of the words: 'command', 'listen, "" reward, "" punishment " .But we will continue to conditionally use this terminology, as well as to express our thoughts do not have the other, and by abolishing it, confuse the reader.

The dog many senses and abilities are developed much stronger than the human, for example, sense (sometimes it borders on the incredible), ears, and the orientation in the area. The task trainer - ably and correctly use these abilities. The actions of the dogs are never called us wanting to do something pleasant or useful. It must firmly grasp. If the dog stops any undesirable for us to act, which she gladly would have continued, it is only because as a result of our intervention has become a dog, with the repetition of the act, rather unpleasant experience for dog. If we were able to get the dog to fulfil our requirement, it is only because she had already acquired experience that, having fulfilled this requirement, it can avoid the pain and trouble and get praise and a treat.

In nature, we can observe that the animals ignored the pain in trouble in order to avoid a much bigger trouble and pain. Why a fox trapped itself gnaws off its leg? In order to avoid starving to death or fall into the hands of the most terrible enemy - man. Why male undermines fences, tearing with his claws and injuring the blood paws? To get to the empty bitch, it pushes it to the instinct, but by his "dog's thinking." These properties can be used for training. If we want to achieve from our dog any action, you have to put it in such unpleasant for her condition, so that the desired action would be for a dog to exit from these unpleasant conditions. For example, we do not want the dog ran out into the yard through the front door. When she would go there, you must throw into it a handful of shot or hit a whip, or to arrange a cold shower - in general to deliver any trouble, time must be left open that door, through which the dog must go; at its exit from this door should praise her and give her a piece of delicacy. Of course, after this long a dog will not walk through the front door.

I’m not talking about silly little sweaters, I’m talking about collars, bed, leashes and toys that are of a sufficient size. The large dog wicker beds are now available to the great joy of all of us large dog owners. I love my dog, but the big galoot is an one hundred and fifty pound black hole of dog beds.

I really don’t think he intends to be rough with his beds, but he has a lot of power and the beds have just not held up well. I’ve spent a great deal of money, over time, trying to provide my loveable monster with a bed that is big enough for him and still provide him a bed that will keep him skeletally healthy for as long as possible. The invent of large dog wicker beds makes me happy, because wicker is tough stuff, and the detachable, cleanable bed portion means that I’m not trying to pull the carpet cleaner out every time the critter find one of his beloved mud puddles. Instead I pull the cover off the memory foam, vacuum the memory foam and toss the cover in the washer. I love the convenience, even if my dog hates a clean dog bed.

Like all the other wicker basket dog bed the large dog wicker beds provide a wonderful bed for your dog, though they have less choices of shapes in the larger beds. There are many choices for the material with which you fill your dogs bed. You can you regular foam, crushed or shredded foam, memory foam, or other materials. For me I prefer the memory foam and then I zip in the edges of the mattress a couple of little cedar blocks. They are at the edge of the mattress not on top or on bottom and the wicker basket holds them into place.

While I’m not much of an advocate for any type of one size fits all, these beds come close. While not all dogs will be comfortable or use a bed such as the large dog wicker bed, it is truly one of the better choices available to the large dog owner. If your dog goes outside you need a bed that will stand up to dirt and be able to be easily cleaned. My dog cannot be the only one who loves a good mud puddle. He’ll fight you about a bath, but some good dirty, nasty, smelly water and he’s so happy he bounces

This type of dog bed will generally offer aesthetic aspects that would not typically be found in a standard dog bed. Special fabrics may be used to construct the designer luxury dog bed. You might also notice that the bed has a unique shape or unusual feature as well.

Because it is a luxury dog bed, be prepared for the large price tags that they will have. These typically will not be found in a typical pet store either. Take a trip to a pet boutique or browse around online to try and locate a luxury dog bed store near you.

[wordbay]dog beds[/wordbay]

Different Types Of Luxury Dog Beds

Some luxury dog beds resemble ordinary dog beds in shape but perhaps provide a high-end cover to give it that luxurious quality. This type of dog bed will typically be made with only the best materials. While some standard dog beds are stuffed with inexpensive polyester filling, a luxury dog bed will likely be stuffed with premium materials such as goose down feathers. Your pup will crawl into this dog bed and take a nice long nap in superior comfort.

There are several popular producers of mattresses that make luxury dog beds as well. This type of dog bed can be found in a decent amount of stores. The dog bed typically resembles a standard mattress in appearance. The inside of the mattress also implements the same type of technology that would be found in a mattress as well. A luxury dog bed designed like this can be great for those dogs that suffer from joint ailments or back problems.

Some luxury dog beds even provide heating and cooling features to keep your dog comfortable. If it is a cold night the bed can provide a warm environment for your dog to get cozy in. If it happens to be a hot summer evening, the bed will also keep your pet cool.

Most luxury dog beds should be designed so that you can remove the cover and wash it. If it does not feature a removable cover make sure that it is washable as a whole piece. It would be unfortunate to spend large amounts of money for a bed that can’t be washed. You should also check with the maker of the bed to see if the covers can be replaced or new filling can be purchased for it if it gets worn out.

There are four other Scottish Terrier breeds, Skye, Cairn, Dandie Dinmont and West Highland White Terriers.

The personality and characteristics and more importantly the dog care of the Scottie comes from its origins. You should compare characteristics with with the other major dog breeds, of which there are many.

The Aberdeen Terrier is often given the nickname of "little diehard". Originally given in the 19th century by George, the fourth Earl of Dumbarton. George IV had a pack of Scottish Terriers, supposedly so brave that they were nicknamed “Diehards” and were the stimulation for the name of his Regiment, The Royal Scots, "Dumbarton’s Diehards".

It is impossible to be sure of the real origins of the Scottie, but it was bred for killing small rodents in Scotland for centuries. It could be the oldest of the five Scottish Terrier breeds , with some references back to the 16th Century.

The origin of the name "terrier" is the Latin terra denoting "earth". The Highland Terrier was a hunter where these small legged, sturdy dogs were designed and built for the function of killing small pest animals such as badgers, foxes and rats out of their burrows.

Scottish Terriers looks are characterised by long fur, heavy eyebrows and whiskers. The stiff coat exists in many colors, including black, brindle or wheaten of any shade. Scotties with 'Wheaten' (straw to nearly white) coats may occur, but may be Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier or West Highland White Terrier.
Scottish Terriers are sturdy, with a muscular body and a long neck. A Scottie has a long head in proportion to its body which averages about 10 or 11 inches high. The Scottie has rigid ears and tail. Theywere bred with strong tails so that their owners could pull them out of tunnels when they were caught after tunnelling after vermin and voles.

Scottiehave petite, intense almond-shaped and dark eyes.
The Highland Terrier personality is one of freedom and will power. Often people say a Scottie thinks he is an Irish Wolfhound in height! To the point that he is quite fearless that sometimes appears idiotic in the face of a much larger dog, when he realises that he is only ten inches high. Professional dog walkers, such as London Dog Walking love to walk them, they are never feel frightened by the larger dogs!

Scottie have similar height and weigh for both sexes, roughly 25 cm (9.8 in), and the length of back from withers to tail is roughly 28 cm (11 in). Generally a well-balanced Scottie dog should weigh 8–10 kg (19–22 lb) and a female from 8–9.9 kg (18–22 lb). Scottish Terrier are about 11–15 inches (28–38 cm) in height.
Highland Terrierare very attentive, light-hearted and confident. Highland Terriers typically live from 11 and 13 years.

Highland Terriers, whilst being very loving, can also be irritatingly obstinate. Because of this stubbornness, a Scottish Terrier needs strong, but kind handling from a puppy or it will dominate the household. Every new Highland Terrier addition needs to have a clear puppy training plan.

The Highland Terrier makes a great watchdog because it generally only barks when essential and generally only for strangers. Dog socialisation is vital as it is a courageous breed that may be aggressive around other dogs unless educated and introduced to other dogs whilst a puppy or young.

Because the Aberdeen Terrier were used to fight and hunt badgers and other vermin they are prone to dig as well as chase small pests, such as mice, rats and squirrels. Yet another reason to recommend that they are kept on a leash.

Whilst Aberdeen Terriers are generally a robust breed they do have a greater chance of developing some cancers than other purebreds. Research has identified six cancers that Highland Terriers are more likely to be at risk of ( when compared to other breeds) are: (in descending order) bladder cancer and other transitional cell carcinomas of the lower urinary tract (more usual in older dogs and more common in females so watch for blood in the urine, problems to urinate and often urinating – and get veterinary help); malignant melanoma; gastric carcinoma; squamous cell carcinoma of the skin; lymphosarcoma and nasal carcinoma.

Common prevention for dog cancer includes, ensure that your dog has minimal contact to herbicides, pesticides, solvents and cigarette smoke; use caution when treating dogs with some flea medications; give a healthy, vitamin-rich diet (low in carbohydrates, high in vegetables) and regularly exercise.
Two other genetic health concerns in the Scottie breed are von Willebrand disease (vWD) which is diagnosed with varying degrees of bleeding tendency, normally easy bruising, nosebleeds and bleeding gums.

The second is craniomandibular osteopathy (CMO); often known as lion's jaw, that causes extensive bony modifications in the mandible and skull. Normally occurring between the ages of 3 and 8 months. The lesions stop progressing after a year, and may regress. The solid swelling of the jaw, drooling, pain, and difficulty in eating. This is also an inherited disease and if extensive, could be difficult for the dog.

Because of these inherited diseases it is highly recommended to buy direct from a breeder, who can show he has not had a problem with these diseases.

Famous Scotties include former President George W. Bushs’ Barney and Roosevelts – Fala. Infact the Scottie is the only breed of dog that has lived in the White House more than three times.
Other famous people who are known to have owned the Scottish Terrier include: Bette Davis; Julie Andrews; E.B. White; Ronald Reagan; Shirley Temple; Tatum O'Neal owned a Scottish Terrier. She was said to be so saddened by her dog's death to old age and cancer that she fell back into drugs.

The Scottie is also a key part of the Monopoly board game, as the popular player token. An Aberdeen Terrier and a West Highland White Terrier are pictured on the Black & White whisky label. In Enid Blyton's Mystery Series books, there is Buster a Scottish Terrier, who is often part of the mysteries.

So all in, a rightfully popular dog breed, particularly in character per lb, but you will need to train and be firm with your Aberdeen Terrier.
